Paul Borg began his career in the music industry at the age of 15 making tea for the likes of Stevie Wonder, Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Motorhead. In 1984, aged 16, Paul left school one Friday afternoon and found himself assisting in the studio the following Monday as Stevie Wonder recorded vocals at Roundhouse Studio Two in Camden, London. By the age of 18 Paul was house-engineer, and within a year he had mixed a string of hits working alongside pioneers of the emerging UK dance scene such as Danny D, Derek B, KLF and Rebel MC, while also engineering and re-mixing for US artists including Was Not Was, Joyce Sims and Gang Starr. This period culminated with a double platinum album for Paul’s work on the hit album ‘wanted’ for pop singer Yazz, as well as a collaboration with legendary Spectrum DJ Colin Hudd to form the group Audio Deluxe, resulting in the hit Balearic anthem ‘60-Seconds’ which achieved the number 1 spot in the KISS FM chart.
During the nineteen-nineties Paul met Jazz/World DJ and label MD Giles Peterson and went on to produce and record numerous albums and projects for Talkin-Loud and Brownswood Records, including the critically acclaimed debut album for Urban Species ‘Listen’ featuring MC Solar, and five albums with Japanese DJ Jazz collective United Future Organization. This period fuelled Paul’s passion for Jazz and World Music, offering opportunities to record legendary Jazz artists such as Flora Purim, John Hendrix and Mark Murphy.
A chance recommendation from Producer/Engineer Mark (Spike) Stent led to a session in Paris where Paul recorded and mixed the hit single ‘Le Pouvoir’ for the French Rap artists Supreme NTM, arguably the most influential Hip Hop group out-side of the US. Paul then went on to record and produce dozens of albums and singles for the French music industry with award-winning artists such as Mathieu Chedid (M), Julien Lourau and Raï star Faudel.
